About Aster's Music House:

Aster Lai started her musical career as a church pianist at the age of eleven. She studied at the music department of the Chinese University of Hong Kong, the Royal Conservatory of Music in Toronto, and the Vienna Conservatory in Austria. In 1983, she founded Aster’s Music House, and since then has become a highly sought after piano pedagogue, specializing in young children. Students from Aster’s Music House have won scholarships, honours and prizes in examinations and Canadian competitions such as Kiwanis Music Festival, Music Scarborough, Mississauga Music Festival, Peel Music Festival, and the Canadian Music Competition. International prize winners include first place at the Concours Musical de France, Manchester International Concerto Competition and most recently, the American Protégé International Competition of Romantic Music.

As an active member of the community, Aster has donated not only her time but her talent to many charities, encouraging her students to perform at fund raising events for non-profit organizations such as United Way, Canadian Cancer Society, as well as various hospitals, nursing homes, and churches as featured concerto soloists. Her students have performed with orchestras such as the Canadian Chamber Academy, the Canadian Sinfonietta, the Toronto Sinfonietta, the Etobicoke Philharmonic Orchestra, the Cathedral Bluffs Symphony Orchestra, the Toronto Cultural Youth Orchestra, and the Toronto Symphony Orchestra.

Aster is known for her personal warmth, extraordinary perceptiveness, and the ability to provide very effective guidance, drawing the best out of her students.

Aster has given master classes in China and Hong Kong, and most recently has been invited as Guest Professor at the Vienna School for the Performing Arts.
